Damage to Your Home May be Reason for Trip Cancellation

Over the last couple of months, a large part of the country has been plagued with tragic flooding. From West Virginia to Louisiana, thousands of people are being displaced and thrown a huge curve ball. We cannot fathom the fear of the unknown that these people are challenged with; our thoughts and prayers are with them during this time.

When a natural disaster affects your life and home such as this, the first priority is not to figure out rescheduling or cancel planned travel. However, many people may not know that the right travel insurance plan may protect a trip investment in the case that a natural disaster damages your home.

Typically, a comprehensive travel insurance plan will provide coverage if your primary residence becomes uninhabitable. This would allow you to cancel your trip and recover any expenses insured by the plan if your home is damaged badly enough and you must change your plans to focus on repairs.

Reimbursement for planned travel is never going to be the first concern when dealing with a natural disaster that affects your home. However, when the dust settles and your family is safe, it may be a bit of fresh air.

If you were affected by a natural disaster that has displaced your family and requires you to cancel a planned, insured trip. Give us a call – we can help you determine if your travel insurance plan will provide reimbursement for your primary residence being damaged.
