6 Halloween Celebrations Around the Country

Halloween is celebrated across the country in all different celebrations. Whether you are looking for a celebration that causes you to scream in terror, for the whole family to enjoy or to party the night away, you can find something to meet your desires.

Spooky Spectaculars

Salem, MASalem’s Festival of the Dead is known around the country to “explore death’s mysteries through events that investigate the favored and forbidden ways in which people have honored, celebrated, and secretly delved into life’s inevitable destination.” The festival is all month long and comes to end with the annual Salem Witches’ Halloween Ball to “summon the spirits” of Halloween. During the month you can experience all the town has to offer through ghost tours, psychic readings, Voodoo ceremonies and visits to the witch doctors.

Sleepy Hollow, NY – Known as the location of the Legend of the Headless Horseman, Sleepy Hollow is not to forgotten. But it’s also not for the faint of heart. The Halloween celebrations around town consist of spooky ghost tours, incredible Headless Hollow walking tour and haunted hayrides. If you want to experience the true grit and fear of All Hollows Eve, this is the place to do it.

Family Celebrations

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party – It’s really an event the whole family can enjoy. On select nights in September, October and November, Walt Disney World opens their doors (after the admission fee) to celebrate the season with a little less fear than a typical celebration. Grab your favorite costume and experience the Magic Kingdom for all it has to offer at Halloween. Between tributes to Disney’s spooky characters, like the Sanderson Sisters, and Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade, you and your family will really enjoy this over-the-top party.

Louisville Zoo Halloween Party – Got some little ones that love to dress up but hate the scary and spooky parts of Halloween? This party is made for them! They can dress up in their not-so-scary costumes and tour the zoo (for an admission fee) without worry of what’s lurking behind the next corner. Because the party is held after night fall, it’s a great time to see the nocturnal animals in their habitats!

Party All-Nighters

Halloween in New Orleans – If you’re favorite part of Halloween is the anonymity and debauchery, look no further. Not only does New Orleans tout spooky haunted tours throughout the day and night, but their Halloween party is second in size and spirit only to Mardi Gras. The main party is in walking distance from the French Quarter at Faugbourg Marigny. The booze is flowing, the costumes are elaborate and the memories are…forever?

Village Halloween Parade, NY – The Halloween parade in the Village of New York City is really second to none. Each year the parade has a theme – this year’s is “Shine a Light” – which sets the tone for the event. The Village organizes the parade but invites the public, if in costume, to join in on the procession. The parade itself is only a mile, so viewing space is limited. Arrive early to get your spot!
